MUSIC

England has produced some of the world’s best music throughout history. In fact, as a country, England has spearheaded some of the world’s most significant musical movements and trends.

Since its earliest days, English music has been particularly diverse and culturally relevant. It was made up of religious music, folk music, classical music and many other styles. There were styles designed for the wealthy and elite and others for the working class and the poor. English music was particularly influenced by European movements. However, there are also many trends and styles that originated from within the country itself.

One of the most important bands of England is:

LED ZEPPELIN

The history of Led Zeppelin is the story of one of the most popular acts in music. Led Zeppelin is credited as being the godfathers of metal, but their music actually incorporated elements of many different musical styles, including blues, folk, reggae, and world.

Led Zeppelin were an English rock band formed in 1968 and composed of guitarist Jimmy Page, vocalist Robert Plant, drummer John Bonham, and bass guitarist and keyboardist John Paul Jones. They are one of the most successful groups in popular music history.

ARCHITECTURE

ARCHITECTURE

With the introduction of Ancient Roman architecture there was a development of basilicas, baths, amphitheaters, triumphal arches, villas, Roman temples, Roman roads, Roman forts, stockades and aqueducts. It was the Romans who founded the first cities and towns such as London, Bath, York, Chester and St Albans. Perhaps the best known example is Hadrian's Wall stretching right across northern England. Another well preserved example is the Roman Baths at Bath, Somerset.

In England there are many medieval castles include:
  •         The tower of London

  •         Buckingham palace

  •         Warwick castle

  •        Durham castle

  •        Windsor castle

Also, there’s hundreds to explore across the country.

SPORTS

Sports play an important part of English life, particularly football and cricket. Some of the world's most famous sports began here including cricket and football.

FOOTBALL AND CRICKET

Although cricket is officially recognized as England's national sport, for many people football (soccer) is the most important sport. Football is incredibly popular in the UK. England is home to some world class football teams, the most famous being Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.

The basic concept of cricket is very similar to that of baseball; teams bat in successive innings and attempt to score runs, while the opposite team fields and attempts to bring an end to the batting team's innings.

STONE MONUMENTS

England is an amazing city and a very interesting country, there are many ancient standing stone monuments that were established during the prehistoric period, amongst the best known are:

      Stonehenge

The iconic and mysterious Stonehenge is one of the most important and loved ancient monuments in the world.

This monument is a big mystery, because: How did our ancestors carry the great stones so far and build this amazing structure using only basic tools? And, what is the true meaning of this ancient? Was Stonehenge a temple for sun worship, a healing centre, a burial site or maybe a huge astronomical calendar? Over many centuries, there has been intense debate about the significance and uses of Stonehenge.

    Devil’s arrows

The Devil's Arrows are three naturally shaped stones. The three huge standing stones on the western outskirts of Boroughbridge are among the least understood and most abandoned historic monuments in Britain.

There are many questions about these stones, for example: Where they came from?, how many there were originally?, what their purpose is?, and who placed them and when, have been for hundreds of years – and are still today – matters of conjecture. These stones form an important part of the prehistoric landscape.

Rudston Monolith

The Rudston Monolith is the largest standing stone in Britain with nearly 8 metres high and weighing 26 tons. It is situated in the churchyard in the village of Rudston in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

The Rudston Monolith is associated with several legends. In one it was thrown by the Devil at the church. It is also said to have fell from the sky to kill people who were going to desecrate the churchyard.
